Shawn McGuire has been an independently practicing advisor to clients regarding financial matters for over 20 years and has maintained the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ designation since 2008. Not only does Shawn have the experience of counseling countless couples and individuals facing divorce through the years, but he also provides the individualized strategies and processes needed post-divorce to reach their ultimate financial goals & pursuits. Planning for divorce is essentially, the process of discovering the needs and interests of the client, analyzing asset and tax data, providing the authority & resources to client and counsel concerning the family finances as affected by the legal separation, and providing different settlement projection comparisons in the context of meeting current and future financial needs. Some examples of common client scenarios include, but are not limited to: • Identifying the short-term and long-term effects of dividing property. • Integrating tax issues and is familiar with tax issues that apply to divorce. • Establishing assumptions for projecting inflation and rates of return, pension and retirement plan calculations and analysis • Determining if the client can afford the matrimonial home – and if not, what might be an affordable alternative. • Evaluating the client’s life insurance needs for continuation of income. Ex-spouses are certain to pre decease one another but hopefully it doesn’t happen when families are dependent upon the income. • Bringing an innovative and creative approach to settling cases. • Provides data that illustrates the financial effect of any given divorce settlement. • Has background knowledge of the legal issues in divorce. • Help client’s identify their future financial goals and set retirement objectives • Develop a budget, determine how much risk they are willing to take with their investments and identify what kind of lifestyle they envision. Having personally experienced the process of divorce, Shawn understands the forces that impact your assets, your business- if you are an owner or self-employed, your retirement plans, as well as your future income and most likely more. And it is through this experience that drives his determination to help other business owners, individuals and families succeed through healing and planning process, allowing them to refocus on their long-term goals and thus allowing them to have a sense of confidence and a mind at ease. Whether it is processing a qualified domestic relationships order (QDRO), starting a new financial plan or managing investment accounts, Shawn takes pride in nurturing relationships and administering care in the movement and direction toward the clients goals and objectives.
